From Ken's comment:
"I
couldn't include it in my other message but here is a photograph of the
US base hospital that would eventually become the Janeway Children's
Hospital in St. John's. A donation that I can say saved my life on more
than one occasion as a kid." This is how Ken remembers the USA, because this hospital saved his life. He joked that it was cool to have a hospital with it's own bomb shelter. That all changed after 2001, Hayward shared with MMN.

Isn't it amazing how one incident could change the face of a nation so much so that the people have given into fear, have given into hatred, have given into everything negative under the sun... including the big corporate conglomerates who rule with the mighty stock...and all because we are only as strong as our weakest link. Our weakest link was the second chief in command at that time... a nation divided cannot stand. E Pluribus Unum. Until we we find those roots again, that chain has been broken and parched from the memory banks of our lives. Sad, very sad.
CarolAnnB - yes, amazing and sad because it is 10 years past the attacks. And, I agree with your political views much of the time as we, as friends and broadcasters have discussed. In so far as your pointing up the VP, there will never be a FULL answer to just what mechanisms were done that would not have been the WILL OF THE PEOPLE had we had knowledge in real time. Our representatives did not even have access to the full scope and thinking of the smoke and mirrors. The 9/11 responders and all directly in contact with the subsequent clean up of the WTC real estate - are STILL SUFFERING with deadly illness and conditions which have already killed many of them. TEN YEARS LATER - and under new leadership - there IS NO EXCUSE for their inability to get free medical help for the rest of their days! And secondary conditions proven to have affected their families. It's like the VA's inability to attend to the service people of this past decade, as well as still not being able to handle (w/o red tape) those service people still alive from ALL CONFLICTS going back to anyone alive from any war-front. The First Response and demo crews of 9/11 have more than proven their conditions as directly connected to their being exposed for months/years to Ground Zero in NYC. LAWS have been created to CARE FOR THEM. So much never even made it into law, or stalled because something unrelated or 'distasteful' to a political PARTY let many of these people time out and DIE. The death toll from the original attacks is grown in 10 years. But not by terrorists, but by political processes still allowed to play out well into a new administration.
I cried last night during the President's Jobs Act sales pitch. I cried because so much of it makes COMMON SENSE, and the emotions of helplessness knowing the bill would be fought over when we can least afford it. Not because of faults, not because it cannot be paid for - but because of MONEY AND PHILOSOPHIES that do more harm than good. I am sad with you because I have lost all faith in leadership without strings and harm attached to the majority of citizenry. Anything ascribed to make into LAW the stranglehold on our country by SPECIAL INTERESTS and LOBBYISTS will kill common sense, create further crisis and plunge our country further down into the DEPRESSION we are facing financially and emotionally as a nation. Obama made sense last night in so many ways, whatever needs to be adjusted along the way AFTER PASSAGE is built in to correct errors. He made a good case, but, my tears of mourning poured watching response by the people who were in the chamber. Any citizen viewing could read the outcome by listening to BOOS and those who remained SEATED during times when others were standing up to applaud a point. Some it is all, same shit different day. In Fighting for the sake of an 'election' in 15 months will harm Constituents in the MAJORITY of ALL PARTIES, so that a crazy faction of monied and UN-AMERICAN THIEVES IN POWER can get their way. E Pluribus Unim. A nice pipe dream that once was a cornerstone of the USA.
Sigh... I imagine the tears of that Native American in the environmental public service commercial so many decades ago now. Can you imagine the trail of tears that have been poured over and over again by the many souls that have been lost time and time again no thanks to the hypocritical, arrogant, pontias pilates who sat in that room, sneering and jeering as like you said, such an emotionally stirring speech? But "thieves" is too good of a word. Even thieves have some honor. No, they are worse than thieves. They are scoundrels at best. Anyone who could sit blankly starring into space with the vacuous and noxious look of repulsion, up-tightness and uneasiness of the thought of helping his or her fellow man because they are poor, sick, or helpless is in itself repulsive, vile and despicable...inhuman. Enough. It's not a pipe dream, Sari. We are living proof that this dream still lives.
If things go in cycle of uproar to CHANGES, it seems an historical 30 year cycle in the USA. I agree with you, CarolAnn. Looking at a guy, and OLD SHITE like Mitch McConnell are obstructionists to what I wish was criminally actionable, or censure worthy charges of CONTEMPT. I don't need to imagine the souls you mention. WE are NOT imaginary, after all!

The President specifically CALLED ALL OF US TO ACTION - to CONTACT our "representatives" and tell them how WE feel. Folks, unplug yourselves from the toys for a second, let go of the strangulation of party petards ... if you have struggled the last 5 years in particular - DO SOMETHING. Red or Blue, your house is worth less, your credit score may be good - but you can't refinance your home while the banks you bailed out are reaping record profits (and not paying back their bail-outs!), while service charging you more when they were TOLD not to do it ... if you need or want a more fuel efficient car, but your city EXCISE TAX takes away your ability to do so ... THEN PARTICIPATE to enact changes. Doing nothing is doing damage.
