DISNEY ABC calls their Soap Viewers BORED HOUSEWIVES

Bearding the lie of low ratings for Disney ABC to cancel All My Children and One Life To Live is MONEY.  Cheap replacement shows that ABC stations will air to replace these venerable soaps, is, in my opinion connected to the SALE of a few ABC stations (like RI ABC6) as a former CITADEL property - may be the bottom line.  Conglomerate group sales and purchases of TV stations via over leveraged deals is crashing the medium all together.  How many ABC groups will air the cheap to produce replacement talk shows slated to take the vaunted, lucrative time slots that AMC and OLTL held down?  How many ABC affiliates will replace the slots with infomercials trying to get their local sales a syndicated program when the replacement shows FAIL?

The big 4 networks use prime time soap formulas in all their highest rated programming from crime, drama, and comedy.  Cartoons fit this slot as well!  So many cable choices and programming insure that niche viewers know their shows, love the lives of their characters and watch or DVR every episode.  LOST was not a soap?  Grey's?  The Event?  V?  Even Ghost Hunters is episodic to a point.  The soap medium gave us the television that the ever loving major demographic viewer watches.

The full advertising slate of national and local advertisers have to LOVE being called the fodder of 'bored housewives'.  SLAP that money maker in the puss, why doncha, Disney?  People who watch All My Children and OLTL are a majority of female viewers and hold the most purchasing power advertisers want.  With the technology of viewing as we wish on our own time, via our own devices such as internet and DVR, you'd think there would be a technology to capture ratings commensurate with how shows are viewed.  The advertisers are slotted in all these venues/social media/ and device convenience to allow production to be enjoyed everywhere!  Now more than ever, soaps are a diversion for people at all hours of the day to take a break from the bummer of current events all over the world.

Bored housewives?  How about your college demographic that is still at least HALF of soap fan viewers?  How about business travelers being able to watch their shows online when away from home, and out of the country?  How about your Military demographic watching from where ever they are stationed?

Cutting out the rich hertitage and endless script material via ending All My Children and One Life to Live is penny wise and pound FOOLISH.    My guess is that there will be an ad backlash too.  My hope is that a cable network like Oprah's new "OWN" would take the helm of both shows - and keep producing these lucrative income generating shows, as well as the 'stories' of people we have come to love and follow even more closely than our personal friends and family relationships!  Daytime Drama is alive and well for making great revenue to pay for production and salaries for many more years to come.  Watch the seeds of AMC/OLTL blow to a new home!

Gauging fan reaction on Facebook and any other Social Media, news release commentary replies and more tsunami's of outlet is only just getting cranked up.  All I can say to Disney/ABC is 'smooth move Ex-lax!"  Fans are gearing up to be aggressive.  And ... in my cynical mind, perhaps the cancellation announcement was entirely all about seeing who cares because the old ratings machines in place are out of date and unable to keep up with WHO watches AMC/OLTL and HOW they watch it.  I predict the shows will be picked up and we will not mourn 'our stories'.    The demographic and revenue will shift to a smarter cable network.

ABC Over 10,000 comments on one post on One Life to Live on facebook; on one single post!!! Your FANS are OUTRAGED!!
~~~~~LISTEN TO YOUR FANS!~~~~~
You think your ratings r bad now? How many talk/cooking shows does daytime need?What are you thinking? Your gonna sink ABC DAYTIME!!
Why don't you just rethink a few writers.. and not naming names but a few actors on OLTL! There are other ways to deal with the ratings problem, you've seen slumps before!.... we don't want a cooking/game/talk show to take the place of a soap that we, and our mothers and grandmothers have watched for over 40 years! This is simply a very bad business move!
Give us what we want, we have kept u on for 40 years! Show some loyalty to your fans!!
Thank God you're leaving GH! but please reconsider, canceling the other soaps....
AMEN - they have underestimated day time viewers worth and purchase power way too many times.
