My personal experiences with Jerry and Cheryl DelColliano have given me a lot of empowerment as a 'retired' radio announcer. When I started reading Inside Music Media, it was a free, many years established; daily Blog.
DelColliano then took a successful risk in 2010 - and made it PAY.
Months before he did it, he shared with me that he was going to do it. He told me that he knew he WOULD lose 95% of his readership. He assured me (correctly so, Jer!) is that he would keep 5% of his followers who would pay a fair subscription rate to get our daily fix. Doing the math on 5% made all the cents [sic] in the world to me. Inside Music Media's 5% paid subscriber base has grown as many of us get his daily email blog teaser - and cannot resist the goodies in the whole article! If you are making, or trying to make a living in broadcasting, the subscription is a work tool. A tax deduction! More than that - Jerry shows people like me, how to be IN the present and establish yourself without a lot of money, and certainly without the daily paranoia of working in terrestrial broadcasting. If you are good, if you hone yourself, you will be able to have the independence and get paid too. It is not immediate, and the Internet is over flowing with free entertainment. But for how long? Inside Music Media, and Jerry's workshops, speaking and teaching roles have given so many of us hope while we watch the industry we love crumble as surely as the banking and mortgage industry collapsed. What made Jerry DelColliano so damned smart? He is not bullet proof - what kind of human being does it take, and what's the story on how a good looking talking head on TV (besides being a wicked good, educated journalist) can pick up the pieces after several culminating factors took him to the ground? In our first phone conversation, Jerry and I were simpatico about not living as victims. We both live our lives by paying forward the gift of living to tell the story. We have differing circumstances and reasons - but the recognition gave us much respect for each other. Jerry and Cheryl have encouraged me while health continues to interrupt Mogol Media NetCasting to become a consistent presence to be noticed on the Internet. I should be talking more than writing. I can't control my health, but I can control my will to keep getting back up. I thank Jerry for much of my hanging on by a cuticle days of being hostage to my body. I thank my husband Peter, and my son, Jake, above all others. Jerry's writing, and friendship have kept me informed. And guess what - while I have been on Health Hold, reading Jerry has shown me that lot of things have loosened up their grip on preventing old jocks like me from saying and now PLAYING what we want to do. When I am ready to get in my own air chair again, I can do it with a good chance of success, or at least, if my dream is going to fail, it will be my own doing and not some schmuck of a PD or GM. Either way, if I only entertain myself, or, my ego or advice pleases but a few ... that's fine. I will have my way! Jerry DelColliano is a part of keeping my Can Do going.
Now, he has shared his life and his new book, Out Of Bad Comes Good: The Advantages of Disadvantages. I think you should buy it! Even if you are not in any broadcasting or Internet industry, it is a real story, a good read and a good growth tool for anyone who's been knocked down by life. You are not going to buy this to get rich quick. It's not like that. It's about how one guy made his own happy Do-Over. And it may fire you up to do the same with the greatness you already have from within.
